2014 Fantasy Baseball Catcher Rankings For Points Leagues

Catcher rankings in weekly head to head points fantasy baseball leagues can be heavily skewed from other formats in which counting stats are not as important.  As with any position, hitting order spots are important in points leagues and each spot in the order is worth just under 25 plate appearances per season.  Catcher is a unique position in that most catchers get at least one day off a week to rest, except for a few players who are so valuable offensively to their teams that they may play 1B or DH on Catching off days to keep their bat in the lineup.  Some of these Catcher-eligible players may not be Catcher eligible in every league, but if they are consider the added value of a player who can play in your Catcher slot while getting 6-7 games a week vs the 5-6 of most Cs in the league.  None of the top Catchers hit in favorable parks, with Posey notably hitting in a league with good pitching and few hitters parks.

2014 Fantasy Baseball First Baseman Rankings For Points Leagues

Paul Goldschmidt

First Baseman is a much deeper position in 2014 than it was in 2013.  Several young emerging players are coming of age alongside plenty of veteran players coming off of injuries or down seasons looking to bounce back.  First base also offers many younger and lesser known players looking to break out in 2014, giving fantasy owners plenty options when deciding on a draft strategy.  Goldschmidt and Votto are neck and neck at the top of the list, followed closely by Fielder and Davis.  Freeman, Hosmer, Abreu and Belt are huge breakout candidates who could finish in the top 5.

Five Unranked NCAA Basketball Teams Who Could Make The Final Four

1. North Carolina TarHeels

North Carolina has the talent to make the Final Four, but they may not have the coaching.  Roy Williams is an excellent recruiter, but his in-game adjustments and strategy seem to lag behind some of his peers.  North Carolina will need to see some good match-ups, but they are a dark horse candidate for the final four with their elite talent.  North Carolina has wins over elite teams such as #13 Louisville, #9 Michigan State, and #14 Kentucky.  North Carolina may be ranked by the time this article is published.

2. Pittsburgh Panthers

Fantasy Baseball Rankings - Top 100 - Head To Head Points Leagues

Miguel Cabrera, the top player in fantasy baseball

The fantasy baseball top 100 player rankings for head to head points leagues are still in some flux as we head in to spring training.  Typically pitching is slightly less valuable in the h2h points format than in roto leagues because pitchers who start two games can be rotated into the lineup on a weekly basis to make up for a lack of talent at the position.  Weekly head to head points formats are more similar to classic fantasy football formats in that each stat is worth points, which makes for more variety in teams than category based formats.  Miguel Cabrera tops this list for fantasy baseball 2014.  The 2012 AL Triple Crown winner narrowly missed a repeat triple crown in 2013. finishing 2nd in HR (9 behind Chris Davis) and 2nd in RBI (1 behind Chris Davis) and should be expected to continue to produce big numbers in 2014 despite losing the protection of first basemen Prince Fielder.

The Top 10 Fantasy Football Dynasty/Keeper Assets

Julio Jones

The combination of NFL offenses trending towards more passing, major and minor running back injuries, and continuing trends in committee backfields have made the Wide Receiver position increasingly valuable in fantasy football.  The top wide receivers are more reliable from year to year, have a longer shelf life than running backs, and also are typically more durable.  Position scarcity works against the wide receiver position, but the most valuable players in PPR formats will come from the WR position.
